     Introduction

Welcome to Religiousroots.com, an interactive website that explores our religious roots. Within this interactive learning tool, you will learn about the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, and the stories associated with them. You will also discover Moses' story, how he was brought up by the Pharaoh's daughter and freed the Israelites from slavery and oppression in the Exodus, as well as receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. You will also encounter the Judges and their role. Israel's first three kings are mentioned as well as the decline of Israel and the Prophets in a Divided Kingdom. Finally, you will learn about the Ark of the Covenant and where it might be today.

The Ancient Near East was dominated by the valley between the Tigress and Euphrates River, called Mesopotamia, present day Iraq. The valley of the Nile was called Egypt. The Fertile Crescent is a rich food-growing area in a section of the world where most of the land is too dry for farming. It is a crescent shaped region that extends from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf.  Egypt was a more stable region whereas Mesopotamia was incessantly invaded from people in the neighboring deserts and mountains. In the western horn of the Fertile Crescent, the lands that the Bible speaks of are located there.
