The Ancient Near East was dominated by the valley between the
Tigress and Euphrates River,
called Mesopotamia, present day Iraq. The valley of the Nile was
called Egypt. The
Fertile
Crescent is a rich food-growing area in a section of the world where
most of the land is too dry for farming. It is a crescent shaped
region that extends from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea
to the Persian Gulf. Egypt was a more stable region whereas
Mesopotamia was incessantly invaded from people in the neighboring
deserts and mountains. In the western horn of the Fertile Crescent,
the lands that the Bible speaks of are located there. |
